Afternoon "Cheese"

Last Friday, my daughter Emily and her husband Craig were both off so they went to Isle of Arran for a day trip.

They explored the area as well as nature ....

however, always thinking of food like me, Emily went into Arran's Cheese Shop (http://arranscheeseshop.co.uk) and bought some cheese home too.

Originally, we were invited to an afternoon tea at their house last weekend as Emily was planning to do some baking in their newly refurbished kitchen. Come weekend, Emily did not do baking so no Afternoon Tea but asked if we would still like to come up anyway to their house as she got wonderful cheese from Isle of Arran, so I said, let's do Afternoon "Cheese" instead.

Emily receiced some lovely cake stands for wedding gifts which we put into use for the afternoon.

Fresh apples to go with cheese came from her father's garden

There were some loafs of bread left so we made some cheese and pickles sandwich and cream cheese and tomato sandwich.

We also made an attempt to bake an orange up-side down cake from Gino D'Acampo's recipe in his baking cooking book.

This is what it should look like ....

Well, we tried, this is how it turned out ...
Orange up-side down cake.
We did follow the recipe but we could not get to caramalise sugar as we have never done that before. We thought Gino could have explained better about how to do this in his recipe so we had to google it to consult and try again. It looks so easy to do this when we watch British Bake-Off on TV!  Well, at least, Emily now knows how to caramalise sugar.

You eat the cake with mascarpone cheese!

Anyway, after 2 hour preparation, we set the table and were ready to have Afternoon "Cheese".

Ok, the cake did not turn out exactly as the way Gino's baking book shows and slices of oranges might have a bit too thick, however, we still enjoyed the cheese fest in the afternoon.

We took the leftover of the cake home and had it the following day for dessert after dinner with mascarpone cheese, which was quite delicious.

That's all forks!
